Skiing @ Font Romeu

Pretty normal week at school this week, although we can't still can't get our heads around what happens when the teacher is ill / has a meeting / something else to do - the kids in the class come home.

Anyway, early(ish) start today - off for a bit of a ski in the nearest ski hill which is Font Romeu. Our host (David) very kindly lent Simon skis/boots/poles, and we'd been to a shop in Perpignan (Decathlon) to buy helmets.
So we needed to get rentals for the kids. We were a bit late altogether, but were on the snow (what there was) by about 10am.

An eager anticipation of the day ahead.....

But, a few bare patches....!!

But snow where it matters....

And plenty of Sun!!!

And plenty of great views....

A downhill competition in progress - Charlie was going to show them how it's done.... (before she got lost on the mountain - yes, really!!!!)

The drive back down from the mountains was a bit hairy, with lots of hairpin bends and sheer drops.....

and impressive bridges...

There's a lovely little yellow train (Le Train Jaune) that runs up this valley and we caught up with it several times on the way down ....

Old villages perched on the valley sides....

And the odd sprinkling of 13th century fortresses along the way....
