Today's delicacy........

Today's delicacy - Catalonian black pudding and olives.....

A mixed week.....

Well, this week was a bit of a mixed bag.

On Monday, Sophie was a bit poorly (cold, sore throat) and had the day off school. Tuesday she was feeling a bit better, but guess what - a teachers' strike closed her school.

And then she has Wednesdays off anyway, so by the time Thursday came around, she was ready for school (well, WE were ready for her to go back to school!)

Then on Wednesday Charlie and Jo started coming down with the same thing, and Charlie's been off since. Everyone's gradually on the mend, having been dosed up to the gills with vitamin C.

On Wednesday afternoon Sophie spotted an odd-looking bird in garden - turns out to have been a Hoopoe. We've seen it a few times since.

On Tuesday we had a bit of a shock - not here, but back in Bragg Creek - with the Husky Service Station burning to the ground. No one was badly injured, but apparently the owner was blown out of the building and his overalls! The volunteer fire brigade did an excellent job to stop the fire spreading to other areas of the shopping area.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoyI_fJl43s

And since mid-week it's been pretty cold and windy here - we woke up this morning to ICE on the swimming pool - OUTRAGEOUS!!

It's supposed to warm up a bit in the next couple of days, but still windy till next week. Ho hum - good job we're heading off to Italy (where apparently the canals in Venice are frozen and Rome's shut down due to snow - BRILLIANT!!)
